WARM ENOUGH

fran3000 If you were to tell me WARM ENOUGH is an obscure 70's Komische album, I wouldn't be skeptical. Dibben employs many of the wonderful song structures of bands like Popol Vuhl, Cluster, Harmonia and early Kraftwerk. There are aesthetic shades in the long drawn out music codas that employ tones as melodies and drones as mood backings, there's also plenty of cyclical dirges that build up into the classic Komische trance. WARM ENOUGH keeps the Komische spirit bursting with life in these songs. Favorite track: BUT I LOVE A GOOD SNOW.

nicholasgrider Maybe because he isn't tied to a specific scene or sound, Selvedge's work doesn't get the attention it deserves, an array of releases that range from albums that would slot somewhere between Merzbow and Black Dice and this album, a rare ambient album that manages to balance serenity and menace. Warm Enough is often serene, but at the edges of it is the same hint of sour anxiety that sometimes prompts us to seek out warm, patient ambient music like this.

about

MYSTIC TIMBRE 043

"Though the experience of SELVEDGE’s latest excursion is a markedly different style than the chaotic, energetic releases that have come before, the artist wastes none of the focus and concentration displayed previously. Instead the skills that went into creating panicked and frantic experiences now feed into a work that moves from warm, glowing ambience to otherworldly trips into abnormal and intimidating environments."

"This composition holds strength in its absolute singularity. Mesmerizing melodies with heavy gravity. Enough to pull the mind in new directions, away from responsibilities and commotion. Maybe to that cabin surrounded by snow or possibly to a place we periodically encounter in dreams. The title WARM ENOUGH almost reads like a question, but after listening, this is truly a statement."

(lostseasound.blogspot.com/2020/09/selvedge-warm-enough.html)

Finding its origins in a long, trying winter soundtracked by Kali Malone, Tyresta, Stars of the Lid, and Windy & Carl, SELVEDGE's third Mystic Timbre release, WARM ENOUGH, sees Kansas-based artist Chance Dibben shedding the harsh, jagged edges of predecessor Hunger Stones and the deconstructed beats of progenitor Mutiny in favor of open, suffuse structures and anfractuous ambient textures. Seamlessly weaving melancholic drones and kosmische synthesizer journeys, the two sides each unfurl methodically in progressions mirroring the measured, steady thawing of winter stasis. Warmth comes slowly and embryonically, but always eventually.

about

SELVEDGE Lawrence, Kansas

Across a sprawling and ever-growing discography, Lawrence, Kansas music-maker SELVEDGE (Chance Dibben) has chased many mutations of ambient, noise, glitch, drone, and distressed techno. His key pursuit is always finding the noise in the beauty and the beauty in the noise, whether exploring sterile and foreboding sheets of sound or the simple romanticism of a fuzzed out synth. ... more
